my favorite part of this book is when he went into town and he went into the pipe and shot out and when he treed his first coon.

Response by Jonathan Paetzold

My favorite part so far is when Billy catches his first coon with his dogs.  It is my favorite part because I was happy for Billy.

response by Duncan Mckinnon

So far this book has been really good. My favorite part of the book is when Billy saves up for the two dogs Old dan and Little Ann. And my other favorite part is when Billy goes hunting in the winter and Little Ann falls into the water and Billy rescues her. That shows that Billy really does care for his dogs.

response by Sullivan Lyons

my favorite part was when billy got his dogs. i liked this part because this is the main part and starts the story of billy with his dogs.

Response by Eric Lopez

I think that my favorite part of the story is when Billy got his dogs. I like this part because Billy after two years finally gets a dog. I always wanted a dog but I got a cat instead. I like the cat so I don't care any more about having a dog.

So far Where the Red Fern Grows is a great book. My favorite part so far is when Billy, Old Dan and Little Ann go hunting for the first time and they are catching a coon and Old Dan is getting attacked and then Little Ann comes and helps Old Dan get the coon. I like that part because it shows that Little Ann and Old Dan care about each other and they wont let each other get hurt.

Response by Alyssa Casio-Togle

My very favorite part of Where the Red fern Grows is when Billy got his puppies and when Billy still kept cutting the tree. That just gave the clue out that it would be a very well done story. When Billy kept on cutting down the BIG tree he never gave up because he made a promise to his dogs just to put it in a tree and the did that; at first Billy was pessimistic but then he saw the sorrow in Old Dans eyes and that look made him change his choice. That is  my favorite part of Where The Red Fern Grows.

Response by Madison Evans

My very favorite part of this book was when Billy got his pups.  It was just like, from that moment on, you knew it would be a great story. That "scene"kick-started the rest of the book. I mean, you could just see the cute little pups sitting at his feet and crying. They were just so cute.  That was surely the best scene.

Response by Anna Blake

I am enjoying this book a lot and I have many favorite parts.  One of my favorite parts of the book so far was when Billy saved money for two years to buy his coon hounds.  Billy showed a lot of determination by not giving up.  I thought that he deserved to get his dogs after his hard work.

MOLLY BROWN 6A!!!!

There are lots of parts in the book that I like but one of my favorite parts in this book is the part when Billy works as hard as he can to cut the big Tree down to get the coon just like he promised his dogs. He worked so hard he was soar from chopping down the tree, got multiple blisters on his hands, and even cried through the process. I wish i could have been able to do that. I can't wait to keep on reading!!!! :)

By Matthew Reilly

This is one of my favorite books... My favorite part was when Billy stayed in he cave one night on his journey home from the place to get his dogs. It was my favorite because when the mountain lion screeched, Old Dan walked to the edge of the cave and bawled. This foreshadowed that he would become a great hunting dog, and that he would someday later see that mountain lion again.
:-)

My favorite part in the book so far is when Billy gets the traps from his father. I thought it was so funny when the cat kept getting stuck in the traps, I thought it was so funny that I laughed out loud . After I read that part I knew the book was only going to get better. So far this is one of my most favorite books that I have read in class!

Talia Pacini 6A

This book so far is one of the greatest book I've read with my class.  Sometimes when I read books with my class I just don't like the book.  So when i started reading Where The Red Fern Grows, I thought I wouldn't like the book but it turns out that I love the book and I would recommend it to anyone.  Since the question today is what is your favorite part of the book so far I will now pick one part that I love the best.  My favorite part in the book is when Billy finds the magazine with adds to buy hounds.  This part made me so happy excited and I knew the book could only get better from that point on .

My favorite part of the book was when billy and his dogs gets the coon out of the big sycamore tree.

Response by Jason Martinez

My personal favorite part of the book is when Billy went out in the city to go get his dogs. I think it was kind how he bought some fabric for his mother and when his grandfather gave him candy, he saved some and shared it with his sisters! When he finally received his hounds, some mean kids started messing with the dogs by pulling their ears. But he didn't let it go and he protected his dogs. When a mountain lion came in the cave where the dogs and Billy slept, he made a fire to keep him away because he remembered that mountain lions were afraid of fires.

Response by Jennifer Harbeck

My favorite part of the book was when Billy, even when it seemed impossible, saved up for the dogs for 2 years. My other favorite part was when Billy finally got the dogs. Billy never gave up even if it was almost impossible.

Responded by: Trevor Wells

My favorite part of this book so far would have to be when Billy is working very to get enough to get the money for his dogs when he goes into the fishing camp and finds the add for hound dogs for sale.  I like this part because it shows that if you work hard for something you believe in it will come true!!!! Another part i like is when Billy doesn't back down to the boys in the town who are picking on him and making fun of him. I liked this pat because it showed how much strength Billy really had. :D

By Jenny Willson

My favorite part of the book so far is when Billy gets his dogs and is training them. Those are my favorite parts because he is extremely happy when he gets his dogs and he trains them himself.

By Stephen Mayer

My favorite part of the book so far is when the coon runs up the old sycamore tree and almost fools the dogs.It is very exciting because you didn't now if they would catch the coon.It took along time for billy to cut the tree down just so he could keep the promise to his dogs.I was very happy when Billy cut down the old sycamore tree.

response by Caleigh Smith

My favorite part in the book so far is Billy and his dogs (Old Dan and Little Ann) are almost tricked by the coon but the dogs keep on trying and then they figure out where the coon was and put him in a tree. As soon Billy comes up to his dogs and notices that the coon is in the ``Big Tree`` he is upset and tries to tell the dogs he can`t cut down the tree but still stays because he promised his dogs that if they got a coon in a tree he would cut the tree down and get the coon. So Billy kept his promise. That is my favorite part so far.

response by: Lissette arce

"I whooped several times but still could get no answer." This is an example of forshadowing because Billyb is trying to call Little Ann and Old Dan and they just won't answer back. So Billy thinks that something is wrong. This made me feel sad because I also thought that something bad happened to them. "Her small feet had rpobably slipped on the ice and had fallen into the icy waters." This is an example of forshadowing because this is telling us that something wrong has happened to Little Ann. This made me feel sad because Little Ann is a brave and smart pup, we do not want anything bad to happen to her. "She was still holding on but I saw her paws were almost at the edge." "I knew her time was short." This is an example of forshadowing because Billy thinks that Little Ann' life is almost over, but since he has been praying to God and making promises to him, God is sending a miracle. Finally this made me feel happy because billy cares a lot for his pups and is willing to sacrifice things to his dogs.

Response by Ryan Delgadillo

In ch.7 we find that sometimes the simplest plan works best.
Describe a time when you got good results by doing something
simply?

Once when my nephew Nathan was 3 years old, we went to
the store, and he wanted a big bike but he was to little for a big
bike.We told him to pick a small bike but he wanted the big bike.
So I came up with an idea that might work ,so he could get the
little bike. My idea was that I would tell him great things the
little bike could do that a big bike could not do. But my dad said
that little and big bikes did the same things. So I told my dad I
would lie. So once I told my nephew he wanted a little bike not
a big bike. It is true that sometimes the simplest things give you
good results.

The first foreshadowing I saw was "I had often wondered what Old Dan would do if Little Ann got into some kind of a predicament." I knew that this was foreshadowing because I notice that this sentence had nothing to do with the rest of the chapter. A other foreshadowing I saw was "never under estimate the cunning of an old river coon. When the nights are dark and the gruond is slick, they can pull some mean tricks tricks on a hound. Sometime the trick can be fatal." I notice that this was foreshadowing because when you remember something that thing often happens. The last foreshadowing I notice was "As I stood listening I heard a gurgling sound out in the middle of the stream." I knew this was foreshadowing because it was saying that something was under water. The foreshadowing in this chapter helped me a lot for under standing what was happening. It also helped me in pedicting what was going to happen.

Responed by Martha

My first forshadow is when Billy was leaving his home and papa told thim that the snow was slick and that it was easy for him to break a leg . And it made me scared that something bad is goining to happen to billy.

My second forshadow is when mama tells billy to put his ax and lanterinside a leather bag because it aws dangers with the snow and at nigh. And it made me feel worried and scared for billy .

My third one is when billy was hunting and while he was waiking and he did not hear little ann or old dan and he thouth that they were in truble . And i felt scared and worried that some thing bad happend to the dogs.

Response by : Sonia Erazo

" I remembered something my grandfather had told me. " " never underestemate the cunning of an old river coon." When the nights are dark and the ground is frozen and slick, they can pull some mean tricks on a hound. Sometimes the trick can be fatal. This is an example of forshadowing because Billy remembers the night he was going through was the exact same time granpa had said. It made me feel scared because a coon might play a dirty trick on Bill's hounds.

"Noy being able to hear the voices of my dogs gave me a uncomfortable feeling". This is an exaple of forshadowing because Billy has a feeling tha something wrong is happening to his dogs. It made me feel worried because maybe the coonhad play them a dirty trick. Also, that maybe that one of Billy dogs is in danger.

" I haden't gone far when I heard Old dan. What i heard froze the blood in my veins. He wasen't bawling on a trail or giving the treee a bark. It was one, lond, countinous cry. In his deep voice there seemed to be a pleading cry for help. Scared, dasher, I started toward the sound" This is an example of forshadowing because now Billy knows that one of his dogs is in danger and he goes after the sound to find out what it is. It made me feel worried, frightened, and especially scared. Why, because if I was in Billy's shoes i wouls freak out about what had happened to one of my dogs. Especially hearing that long cry from Old Dan.

response by Daisy Vargas

"Never underestimate the cunning of an old river coon. When the nights are dark and the ground is frozen slick, they can pull some mean tricks on a hound.Sometimes the tricks can be fatal."
It's an example of foreshadowing because the night is dark and slick. The coon has played some trick but not deadly ones. This made me feel very suspicious. It made me feel suspicious because everything Grandpa has said has come true.
"A cold silence fell over the bottoms."
It's an example of foreshadowing because usually when it's quiet something bad happens. This made me feel scared because I feel something will happen.
"I whooped several times but didn't get an answer."
This foreshadows something bad happening. This made me feel scared because what if Little Ann is hurt.

Response by Tessa McNeil

I think that Where the Red Fern grows is an amazing book.  I love it so far, and my favorite part is the first coon hunt.  Billy feels so proud of his dogs when they find a trail.

Response by Duncan Rowland

The book is  very good so far! My Favorite part so far is when Billy, Old Dan, and Little Ann go on their first coon hunt. I also like when when they can't find the coon then Little Ann finds it and they tree the coon and Billy has to cut down the tree because it is too big to climb and that Billy is passionate towards his dogs and keeps the promise that if they tree the coon he will do the rest and it takes him days to cut it down. Billy's Grandpa makes a scarecrow with Billy so he can rest and eat. Then the next day Billy prays to God for help to cut the tree down. When he is just about to give up there is a wind that blows the tree down and it is only where the big tree he was cutting down was. Then he is really excited he got his first coon.

Simon Stauber

This book is really good. I liked that Billy actually accepted the challenge that the brothers gave him.  I also liked when the wind seemed to be tearing the big tree down and they got the coon.

"Where the Red Fern Grows" is a GREAT book so far! My favorite part is when Billy, Old Dan and Little Ann go on their first coon hunt.  Billy loves his pups so much and he loves to hear them howl in the moonlight.  Little Ann has the brains but Old Dan has the strength and passion.  They catch their first coon in the big sycamore tree.  Billy has to keep his promise to the dogs so he has to cut down the biggest tree in the forest.  It takes a lot of strength, commitment, and courage but in the end, it is worth it.  He skinned his first coon and hangs it in the barn for everyone to see.  I can't wait to read more and I really want to see the movie!!

Response by Connor Lucier

"Where the Red Fern Grows" is a great book so far and I am deeply enjoying it.  Although it is slightly different from the movie, it gives more detail about the actual story. These slight details create a huge difference between the book and the movie.  That is what I really like about this particular book.

Response by Covi Brannan

My favorite part in Where The Red Fern Grows is when Billy and his dogs go out for their first coon hunt. I love how Little Ann and Old Dan are waiting by the door when he walks out as if they Knew they were going hunting. It's so funny when Billy sees that the tree that his pups ran the tree into is the big tree. I think this chapter really shows Billy"s friendship and love for his pups.

Response by Tessa Allen

My favorite part in Where The Red Fern Grows, is when Billy cuts down The Big Tree to get the coon out. I like is because it sows that billy is faithful and he will not break a promis to his dogs or to any one for that matter.  It also shows Billy's courage. The book is great so far!

By Jillian Parks

My favorite part in "Where the Red Fern Grows" is when Billy has to climb a tree because Old Dan when up it through a hole in the side of the tree. When Billy got up to the tree, he pushed the pup back down the tree hole but he had to do twice more because Old Dan climbed it up again. To stop this from happening, Billy had to stuff rocks and twigs into the hole!!

In CH.7, Billy thinks thet Grandpa is lyingto him. Compar4e how Billy feels to hoe AnneMarie felt. In what way where the two situations were similar? In what ways were they different?

Billy and AnneMarie feel the same way about how grown-ups lie to them. They both feel dissapointed. They probably feel disrespected. In AnneMarie's story they lie to her to protect her and make her more brave. In Billy's story they lie to him to make him a hard worker.

Grandppa says thta boys should have to chop down a tree because it teaches them determination. Describe an experience in which you had to '' chop down a tree'' and explain how you gained ''determination and will power. ''

When I was 9 years old, 3 years ago not so long ago. I got stitches on my right leg, on top of my knee. I got eight stitches that was a bad experience. The determination to run and walk again was hard but I never gave up. The will power was I should start to listen to my mom when she said not climb that. That was my determinatio and will power was my experience.

Once I had to jump in front of a car to save my dogs life . My aunt went to get food , she parked outside so I went to go help .My grandma and I went to help , my dog always stays inside . we started walking and so did the dog, out of no where a van comes so I start to panick. We start calling the dog but she is disobeying . All of a sudden I jump in front and run across with my dog.

The time that I "cut down a tree" was when I had to get on the roof with my Dad when it was raining to cover a leak. It tought me determination and will power by making me work very hard to stop the leak. Once we stopped the leak everybody was proud of me. When people are proud of me I feel so happy.

Once I had to improve my swing in baseball. It was hard for me because I had to wait for the ball. If I would reach for the ball I would have to run a mile. After I had gotten my swing I had ran 12 miles this was hard for me. But it paid off to run all those miles because i would hit the ball more.

the time i had to "chop down a tree" is when I wanted to get the wii . I started easy by recycle cans/bottles and i used to get like $15 through $20 dollers. Then when i found coins I got them and put them in a bag and then put it in this machine in cvs and the mashine will give you the same money but in bills. What I learned is how hard the parent has to work just to make money so now I take better care of my things not like how i used to. that is when I had to "cop down a tree".

I think I am determened to my grades. Why? Well because at first i just did my work because i had to. Then, I had my parent meeting and i notced my graes weren`t so good. So instead of just doing my work because I had to, I started doing my work because I wanted to. Also by me having my meeting I felt like i gained determination with my gades, and now all I think about when im doing my work is that "I have a choice to do my work or not, but I chose to do it". So by me bringing my grades up i think i gained determination and power.

I think Billy feels almost the same way as Annemarie about the way that some people lied to them. Although I think Billy feels a little worst than Annemarie because Billy feels without any hope of catching the coons and he also feels like it's impossible. On the other hand Annemarie felt like she was going to loose evertthing including her best friend, Ellen. These two situations are similar because they both feel like they are going to loose everything. They are different because one felt like it was impossilbe and the other felt left behind.

Response by Molly Brown

Have I saved up for anything???? Oh yes I have. This was just last week. I really wanted a digital camera because I had a volleyball tournament last week and I really wanted to take pictures with me and my friends so I told my dad that I wanted a camera and he said that I had to have at the least $100. So, I went to my room and started counting up all my money. I had over $100. I was so happy but I had to wait a week to get my camera. In the end my Dad ended up paying for part of my camera but I was so happy!!! Guess what my first picture was taken of?? My friends and I at our volleyball tournament!!! Now I am so happy. I almost take a picture everyday with it.

When I caught it I was not even looking because here anymore I was paying attention to something else which was my brother. When I was playing soccer for my first time I did not know how to play. I was kicking the ball wrong. I noticed that I was kicking it with my front of my shoe when I was supposed to kick it with the side of my shoe. Also when I was playing baseball I was at a wrong stance. After my brother taught me I was getting better. I guess anything was possible.
I think that working hard for something is always good. Even if your reward is only a "thanks" and a pat on the back. I've worked hard for plenty of things, like, a gift at Christmas. I don't really have that gift from doing what I did earlier (trash, dishwasher...), but I still think that getting something later is a belated thanks.

Man, if I were Billy, I could not earn that much money.

"There's more to an education than just reading and writing" "Much more!" I think that tis means that you can set your mind to do what you want to. Also that you need to know need to know other subjects in life. The main subjects that you need to know are Math, Reading, and Writing. You need to know math at all times and all your life. What I mean by this is that when you buy something or sell something, you will need to know much money you are giving that person or that person was giving you.
I do think and know that there is more to education than just reading and writing. I know this because as I had said before you'll need to know Math through all you life. Let's say for example you have $100.00 and you buy a cover for your ipod a it cost you $24.99. What would you do if the cashier gave you $65.00 instead of $75.00? You will never even know that they didn't give you the right change. This is why it is important to know Math.

What I learn in school besides school subjects are manners. Well as you all know you were once taught these thing and are still being taught these things. I main thing that you will need to learn besides Math is Manners! Manners are a big thing in your life. You will need them when you give or receive things. If you sneeze and someone says bless you, and since you don't know manners well that person will probably end up being mad at you.

On page 52 , papa says, '  more to an education than just reading and writing . Much more ." What do think Papa means by this ? Do you think there is more to education than reading and writing ?  What kinds of things  do you learn at school besides how to read and write ?

I think that papa means by that you could learn more than reading and writing. They are math ,science , social studies , English , Religion , Language Arts and P.E. this are the kinds of the subjects. I think that education it is way better because we learn more and if we want a job we have to learn because if don't we won't be able to work because we won't know nothing. Education you get more learning and you get a big chance by improving your grades because that will affect your study skills. It is really important for us to learn all the subject because if don't know how to read we can't work because than they won't give it to us. It is really important specially if we want a family and we don't have enough money to pay the bills and buy them cloths.I think that papa means by that  because of the causes they are . If you just learn reading and writing you won't know your multiplication, division , subtraction , and your addition . Thats what i think papa means by that because we won't have a good education or good because we won't nothing so we won't have a job.

response by Daisy Vargas

What I think Papa means by saying this is that you need to now more to an education than just
reading  and writing. I do think their is more to an education than just reading and writing.
You learn math. You learn  about our ancient history. The last thing you learn in school is Science.

response by Mark Evans

Pa means billy can learn a lot more things than reading and. Writing he can learn math history spelling and. A lot more stuff he can be very smart and. He can have a friends like us he can have a teacher and that is what I think Pa was talking about.

Response by Cytlaly Munoz

I think that what Papa means is that their Mother doesn't know a lot and won't teach them what they need to know to get a good job. Because nobody knows everything except for God. Papa also wants his children to be teach by a professional teacher not Mama. What he also might mean is that they also could know Math, Science, and Social Studies not just reading and writing. I believe that there is more to an education then just reading and writing. I think Papa just wants the best for his children.

response by Emily Camacho

Papa said "There's more to an education than just reading and writing. Much more." I think he means that you don't only need to know how to read and write to be well educated. I agree with Papa. I also think that there is a lot more to an education than that. You need to know a lot more to be well educated.

Some other things you need to learn in school are math, social studies, science, and spelling. You will most likely use math and spelling everyday.

My  (T-T-T) is like in this book called Hatchet. Brian gets scared when he hears sound around him. And sound was a turtle.
My Second  (T-T-T) is that when, in the same book Hatchet he turns in fire and scares all the animals
My last but not least (T-T-S), is that when went camping to Oregon i saw  something strange past and it was a deer

Response by Martha Flores

My text-to-text to the story is the movie finding nemo when the dad sees  nemo  where the boats fish and the dad feels like if his heart is in his throat and worried about him.

My second text-to-text is the book dar because when he was alone camping in the forest in a cave alone in the night and dar got scare and felt like if his  heart was in his throat  and this is like billy because he was scared and felt like if his heart was in his throat when he heard the mountain lion was screaming all night and left in the morning .

My text-to-self is when my mom told me that my grandpa  was in the hospital i felt like if my heart was in my throat and i was scare and worried that something bad was going to happen to him.

Yes, I have saved up for a new wetsuit and surfboard i did this by doing chores and helping my parents now I'm saving up for something I might want.

Responded By Austin Campos

Text - Text :It was sort of like when Brian used the fire to scare the bugs and animanles away.
Text -Text  :When Billy faced the moutain lion / And when Brain faced the Moose.

Text -Self   :When I went to a camping trip my uncle told me that we had to build a fire and I asked him why.He told me that we had to keep all of the animanles and bugs away. So we built one, and that night a bunch of  moscatioes and a lot of flies.

Yes, I have had to work hard to get something I want.  Right now I am saving up money to buy a new, good bike.  I am doing this by babysitting, doing chores, and helping my parents.

Response by Kelly Byrne

Yes I always work for things I want!! Whenever my brother, Johnny, has a basketball game I babysit my two younger brothers for money.  Sometimes I think that I should just quit and tell my mom to come home but I remember that I need the money to a computer or a new ipod or something like that. It took about 1 month of babysittng, chores, and a lot of determination and hard work.  Billy had to work hard for 2 years and that is way more then I had to wait! But in the end, it all paid off. :)

Nolan Sharp

Yes, I have worked hard before when I wanted a new game or something.  It does take a long time and sometimes it seems like its not worth it, but when you finally have enough money and you get what you had wanted so much it really is worth it to wait.

Response by Covi Brannan

Yes, I have worked hard for something I really wanted. I always have to earn things I want. Anytime I want new clothes, shoes or something, I get the money by doing chores and babysitting my siblings. Most recently I really wanted a pair of shoes from Beehive, a store up the street from my house. I babysat my little brother and sister a couple times and finally I had enough money to buy the shoes!

Response by Brandon Ramirez

My text from billy to brain are similar to each other. When they both make a camp fire. They both make to be warm and scare off  the animals. The other text is when billy gets surprise when he gets the dogs, but he was sad about something. That connects to brain in hatchet when he sees a plane, but he was sad that it didnt pick him up to take him home. My text to self is when I got in a fight with to kids and but then more came. then my friend helped me out, just like billy in the fight and marshals save him.

Response by Connor Lucier

Yes, I have had to work to earn money to buy something I really wanted.  It was my Wii. I wanted it so badly that I washed my neighbors' cars, took out the trash and did plenty of other chores in order to save the amount I needed: about $150.00.  But sadly, when I managed to get enough money, I was surprised by the fact that my mom had ALREADY BOUGHT ONE.  I was mad that I had spent that much time making that much money, but I was happy that one, I had a Wii and two, I didn't have to spend my own money to buy the Wii.

response by Tessa Allen

Yes, I have worked very hard for something i really wanted! Right now, I want a laptop and I have saved up $500 so far. I saved up the money by doing household projects, baby sitting, and selling lemonade. It took me a log time just as it took Billy two years. If you want something hard enough, you will succeed. But to succeed, you must put forth your best effort and play by the rules.

response by Edith Ruiz

My text-to-text is that when Brian (hatchet) wanted something, he had to work for it. Bill had to work if he wanted the Hound dogs.

My next text-to-text is that when Brian had to protect himself from the flies ,he had to build a fire, so he had something to protect him.

My final is text-to-self,  I wanted an ipod so i had to work for it. I raised money and i was going to buy it but then I didn't want it anymore. So just like Billy and Brian i had to work for something I wanted. Even though I didn't buy it anymore.

Responded by: Jillian Parks

Yes I have worked very hard to earn money just like Billy did. When I first got my dog, I wanted to get her a matching collar and leash.  Also I wanted to buy my sister a phone for her birthday. So when I wanted both of these things, I would brush my dog each day, set the table, and unload the dishwasher, along with making my bed each day. I earned $5.00 at the end of each week and my wish came true; I bought my dog a matching collar and leash, and my sister a phone!

Today we compared several events in Ch. 5 to other texts we have read.  Please read record two text to text connections you have made, and also at least one text to self connection.

My text to text.  There was this movie called pasafier when a kid was kind of getting betten up by the school wrestling kids. Vendiesal was going into the sooyer he was freak out because it smell so bad he might want to throw up.  My text to self.  When I went to camped I was in a cave  It was cold and creepy because it look like the hold cave was going to calaps.

In Where The Red Fern Grows, Billy is so excited that he feels like his heart is in his throat. This experience is similar to Dar's in the book "Dar And The Spear Thrower" when he finally learns how to use the spear thrower after all the things he had to do. It's like when i went to six flags and I got on the roller coster Goliath and it feels like your heart is in your throat, because you get scared and your heart is pounding really fast.

In Where The Red Fern Grows, Billy's camping experience is similar to Brian's in the book "Hatchet" when he needs to build a fire for warmth and to keep animals away from him. And the both kids,Billy and Brian are alone camping by themselves. It's like when i went camping to Yosemite National Park. When i was night we had to build a fire not only for warmth. But i remember what my grandpa had said that night " we build a fire not only for warmth but for light and keep dangerous animals away from us.

My parents did not let me go to the store unless I was with somebody like my brother
or my stepbrothers. I was wondering why they would not let me go to the store. I guess
it was for my safety. I think that is why Billy's parents did not let him have a gun to hunt
with.

When I was to school I was scared to go to school. I was going in but my teacher told me to go get something.  Next I was looking for the office. Then I found it and she gave my a folder. I was happy to get one because I did something right for the first time I was there  Finally I got reward a sticker in the kindergarden.
Angela Gaona
An example of Billy's success was having courage to get on the slide and his just reward was he became happy after being  sad of  the great depression. Another example was when he picked  berries and his just reward was getting paid. An ex ample I have is when i study i get better grades than if I wouldn't of studied. Another example is when I don't get  deficiencies in week I get a reward. Another just reward was when I improved my grades and my parents took me to Shakey's.

Response by Ryan Delgadillo

Billy's example on the slide is a just reward because Billy has never been on a slide. So he gets
terrified to go in the slide, but once he is going down the slide it seems kind of fun to him and
he forgets of all the bad things that have happened to him  and he is happy that he got on the
slide.

I had a similar experience when I got a c on math in my report card . So I had to get my math
grade up so I can get an a on my math grade and get second honors. So to get my grade on math
up I have to study a lot. So once I get an a on math , I might get a reward from my parents. That will be my just  reward.

Response by Vianey Landa

When Billy went up the slide to beat the boys' record,he showed "just reward" because he went through a scary situation and he was rewarded by getting the two coon hound puppies he had always wanted. I have had a similar situation once when I entered in a math competition and I got rewarded by getting a small trophy. This was an example of ''just reward."

Once I found a wallet in school. I decided I would be honest and turn it in. I gave it to the
schools coach. The coach rewarded me with a character count strip for my honest action.
Later on I found out that the wallet belonged to a young man from Loyola who was
     visiting our school.

Response By Amy Delgado

In one way Billy got hurt falling of the slide and onto the ground but beat the record. He also slipped from the slide but made to the top even if it was the first time climbing up a slide. A similar event happened to me one time. For homework we were only supposed to do half of a page but I ended up doing all of the page. The next day our homework was to do the next half of the page and I did not need to do the homework. I was proud and I bet Billy was to.

Response by Emmanuel Aldana

Billy was motivated to work hard to save his money by his "Dog wanting disease."I think that Billy would just work harder if the prices of the dogs went up. I would just work harder if that would have happened to me. Billy was very determined to save up those 50$, and in the end all his hard work payed off.

Response by Elmer guerra

Billy worked very hard to save his money , and he had to save up for a very long time . Have you ever had to work to earn money to buy something you really wanted?

I worked so hard for I can get the Wii and it cost $250. I had to collect coins I found and and gave it to the bank . the bank gave my my money back but on bills .It took me 5 months to get enough money to buy the wii. Yes it was worth it cause now it is so fun in the weekends I can't stop playing it.

Where the Red Fern is really good book so far I like the way the author approaches the starting of the book and my favorite part of the book is when billy mets the marshall and has soda pop with him.

memories are priceless because they are yours and other people don't really care about your memories. If you went to the beach and you had a lot of fun some people might not care about it because they wouldn't think it is interesting but you really care about that memories

Response by Eric Lopez

Memories are priceless because the memory can only be yours. Another person was most likely with you but only you can think that memory is priceless because if you see something that reminds you of that memory only you remember it the other person might think that the memory was not priceless. My most priceless memory is when the whole family is all having fun because you think this is a great time and you don't want it to end.

Memories are priceless.Y?someone might ask.Well, lets say someone gets a dog after theyve been wanting and begging for one for years!that memory is priceless, because u can see it on t.v., hear about it from a friend, but u can never forget that memory or get the same feeling from  hearing someone elses memory. Its the same way for, pets, presents, first kisses,etc..My favorite memory is when I went swimming with my Dads friend and we saw a tiger shark up close. We went right up to it,and i stared it in the eye.

response by Duncan Mckinnon

One of my priceless memories is when I saved up to buy a bike. I had to clean the table, take out the trash, feed my dog and then after 3 weeks i was able to buy the bike.

response by Sullivan Lyons

i have a lot of memories that have happened to me but my favorite was when i hit the ball out of the park. i feel this is priceless because it was the first time i have ever done it. however it was during practice so it didn't count but i hope i could do it during a real game.

Response by Jonathan Paetzold

There are many priceless memories a person can have but my favorite is when I scored a goal in soccer.  This is my favorite priceless memory because no one in my family has ever scored a goal and it feels good to be the first one in my family.

I have worked very hard to earn money before. I was saving up to buy shoe that I really wanted. In order to earn the money I kept my room looking very neat,i fed my dogs, washed dishes, and i did the laundry everyday. It took me about one month to earn the money. To me it was worth doing all that I did because at the end all that cleaning pays off and i got what I was saving up for.

Response by Heriberto Maldonado

My response was that he worked so hard to get fifty dollars and buy two coon hounds dogs.I can see how someone can go very far for something he might not even get to. I honestly think that Billy will get his coon hounds for working hard.

I think that will work even more harder than ever he will be pushed to the limit and it was all for two coon hounds. I call that never giving up. I like Billy determination because he works every hard that is nice and all for the coon hounds.

I will work hard for it, and will do anything for dogs, I know how Billy feels because I have a dog. Chocolate is half-hound and half Cocker Spaniel. I work a year an half to get Chocolate after I got him I was happiest boy in the world. It is a lot of responsible to take care of it, you have to feed it , wash it, play with it. Or it will be one sad dog it was hard work, but it paid off.

response by Maurilio Estrada

I have worked to earn money because I really wanted a new skateboard. I had to cut the lawn and sweep the yard. I also had to clean my room and wash the dishes. It took me about three weeks to save up the money. It was worth it because the skateboard was expensive and I have always wanted to have an Element skateboard.

Response by Ashley Sandoval

For my birthday I really wanted a Nintendo DS . I worked hard, I cleaned under my bed  and cleaned all of my then  hamster's toys . Then my mom said we were going to Target to get something the day before my birthday . We went to the back my mom told me to go to the toy section. So that is how I got my DS .

Response by Stephanie Meza

Billy's mother does not let Billy  have a gun until he's 21 years old. I have had a similar situation. One time I really wanted to know how to drive a car but I was too young, I was only six years old. I was so young and small that I could not even reach the car pedal. I think my parents told me that I couldn't drive until I was 21 because only people that are old enough can drive, and people that can  actually reach the pedal! So I think that before I was just acting a little silly.

The cherokee and the golden rule are similar by the meaning. The meaning mean that don't judge other people. We both believe in God and have similar creation stories. Our stories have an explanation. Our names have meanings.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      When it says i will walk in someone's shoes it means that you will not judge someone until i know what they have been through.

I have worked very hard to buy a sighed baseball bat by Vladmir Guerro for one hundred dollars. It took two years to earn the money.I had to babysit my sister, house chores, and mow the lawn.I got really tired fast. I was worth it I got twenty every month. I had to work for five hours a day.I was always tired after every day.

Response by Joy Velez

I have work very hard to save money when I wanted a new jersey. I was saving to buy a jersey because I like to wear different kind of jerseys. Wt I did was wash  my mom's cars and helping my mom in her job, cleaning a house that . So I can earn my money I had to work for five weeks because I got paid $20 a week and I wanted to raise $100 because  that is how much it costs. It was Worth-it because I had to work more  than 5 weeks.

Response by David Flores

Most kids don't like doing work around the house/ in the yard. Papa tells billy that in the summer he is going to get  to help work in the fields [ which will be a difficult
job].

I think billy is excited because he is like a man. I think billy excited because if he works in the fields he might forget about the dog.I  time I got excited when my dad plant my corn. I think no one  would be exciting because most people don't care. I really like my corn. I share it with my family. My family like it.

Memories are priceless because I feel that without memories you would never know how to enjoy life.  It is almost a way of life.  When you go to your favorite restaurant or go to your favorite amusement park you create a new memory whether it is a good or bad one.  But I feel memories normally aren't fully shared if you are alone.  It is not only where you are but who you are with.  When I look back on bad memories I think the memory would've been less depressing if I hadn't been alone.  My favorite priceless memory I would have to say is when I went to Irish Dance camp over the summer and I spent time with people who just knew what I meant when talking about dance.  I met a great friend and improved one my dancing!!! How much better could it be. :)

Response by Matthew Reilly

Memories are priceless. You will carry them for the rest of your life, whether it be sad, funny, intriguing, or happy. My favorite memory was at my family birthday party. My dad was cooking steak and told my brother that the steak was on fire and that he needed something to flip the steak over with. My brother ended up running back to my dad with a cup of water yelling, "Fire, fire!", and my brother hysterically poured the water all over the steak. We had wet, cold steak for dinner.

Response by Molly Brown

Memories are like little treasures that you carry with you throughout your life. I have had funny, depressing, and happy memories that I will never forget. I look back on a lot of funny things that my friends and I have shared together. I will never forget them and I will never lose them just like the little treasures that I NEVER leave behind.

Response by Anna Blake

Memories are priceless.  They are like little treasures that you collect throughout your life.  Every day  of your life you collect memories, whether they are sad or happy.  I have many favorite memories.  They are of birthdays, times I have had with friends, and just general "laugh out loud" moments.  Every day I go to school, I collect memories with my friends that will stay with me forever.

response by Madison

Memories are happenings  in your life that have made some kind of  difference, so you'll remember them. They'd be priceless because they are your own. You can't really "buy" a memory either. My favorite memory is probably...I don't know. (Partially because I have a bad memory.)  I would say that every Christmas has been wonderful. Spending time with family, Jesus' birth, and, yes, gifts are pretty nice too.  That would be my best memory.

Response by Alyssa Casio-Togle

Memories are priceless  because you can always keep them in your heart no matter what. You can always  remember them in sad times, but the memory will never fade. You can't sell your own memories. Well, You can tell it to a friend or a kid and then they'll have a memory they will never forget.  Memories are priceless but some are precious to you like the first day you lost a tooth or when you got a trophy.  Now thats a Priceless memory.

Response by Greg Regan

Memories are priceless because once you get a memory, you have that memory whenever you want it.  One of my favorite priceless memories was when I went to the top of Half Dome.  I remember feeling so happy that I made it to the top.

Response by Ryan Turley

All memories are priceless to me even if its a  bad or a good memory you should remember it anyways. Because some memories you can member like if your with one of your friends and something good happens when you are together because what if something happens to that person and you cant see them again you can always remember them by that one memory. No matter what if the person is mean you may never see them in your life and in your thoughts is the best place to remember memories of friends and family.
