I think it was kind how he bought some fabric for his mother and when his grandfather gave him candy, he saved some and shared it with his sisters! When he finally received his hounds, some mean kids started messing with the dogs by pulling their ears. But he didn't let it go and he protected his dogs. When a mountain lion came in the cave where the dogs and Billy slept, he made a fire to keep him away because he remembered that mountain lions were afraid of fires.

Response by Jennifer Harbeck

My favorite part of the book was when Billy, even when it seemed impossible, saved up for the dogs for 2 years. As soon Billy comes up to his dogs and notices that the coon is in the ``Big Tree`` he is upset and tries to tell the dogs he can`t cut down the tree but still stays because he promised his dogs that if they got a coon in a tree he would cut the tree down and get the coon. This is an example of forshadowing because Billyb is trying to call Little Ann and Old Dan and they just won't answer back. So Billy thinks that something is wrong. This made me feel sad because I also thought that something bad happened to them. "Her small feet had rpobably slipped on the ice and had fallen into the icy waters." This is an example of forshadowing because this is telling us that something wrong has happened to Little Ann. This made me feel sad because Little Ann is a brave and smart pup, we do not want anything bad to happen to her. "She was still holding on but I saw her paws were almost at the edge." "I knew her time was short." This is an example of forshadowing because Billy thinks that Little Ann' life is almost over, but since he has been praying to God and making promises to him, God is sending a miracle. Finally this made me feel happy because billy cares a lot for his pups and is willing to sacrifice things to his dogs.

Response by Ryan Delgadillo

In ch.7 we find that sometimes the simplest plan works best.
Describe a time when you got good results by doing something
simply?

Once when my nephew Nathan was 3 years old, we went to
the store, and he wanted a big bike but he was to little for a big
bike.We told him to pick a small bike but he wanted the big bike.
So I came up with an idea that might work ,so he could get the
little bike. My idea was that I would tell him great things the
little bike could do that a big bike could not do. But my dad said
that little and big bikes did the same things. So I told my dad I
would lie. So once I told my nephew he wanted a little bike not
a big bike. I knew that this was foreshadowing because I notice that this sentence had nothing to do with the rest of the chapter. A other foreshadowing I saw was "never under estimate the cunning of an old river coon. When the nights are dark and the gruond is slick, they can pull some mean tricks tricks on a hound. Sometime the trick can be fatal." I notice that this was foreshadowing because when you remember something that thing often happens. The last foreshadowing I notice was "As I stood listening I heard a gurgling sound out in the middle of the stream." I knew this was foreshadowing because it was saying that something was under water. The foreshadowing in this chapter helped me a lot for under standing what was happening. It also helped me in pedicting what was going to happen.

Responed by Martha

My first forshadow is when Billy was leaving his home and papa told thim that the snow was slick and that it was easy for him to break a leg . " " never underestemate the cunning of an old river coon." When the nights are dark and the ground is frozen and slick, they can pull some mean tricks on a hound. Sometimes the trick can be fatal. This is an example of forshadowing because Billy remembers the night he was going through was the exact same time granpa had said. It made me feel scared because a coon might play a dirty trick on Bill's hounds.

"Noy being able to hear the voices of my dogs gave me a uncomfortable feeling". This is an exaple of forshadowing because Billy has a feeling tha something wrong is happening to his dogs. It made me feel worried because maybe the coonhad play them a dirty trick. Also, that maybe that one of Billy dogs is in danger.

" I haden't gone far when I heard Old dan. What i heard froze the blood in my veins. He wasen't bawling on a trail or giving the treee a bark. It was one, lond, countinous cry. In his deep voice there seemed to be a pleading cry for help. Scared, dasher, I started toward the sound" This is an example of forshadowing because now Billy knows that one of his dogs is in danger and he goes after the sound to find out what it is. It made me feel worried, frightened, and especially scared. Why, because if I was in Billy's shoes i wouls freak out about what had happened to one of my dogs. Especially hearing that long cry from Old Dan.

response by Daisy Vargas

"Never underestimate the cunning of an old river coon. When the nights are dark and the ground is frozen slick, they can pull some mean tricks on a hound.Sometimes the tricks can be fatal."
It's an example of foreshadowing because the night is dark and slick. The coon has played some trick but not deadly ones. This made me feel very suspicious. It made me feel suspicious because everything Grandpa has said has come true.
"A cold silence fell over the bottoms."
It's an example of foreshadowing because usually type='text'>Response by Duncan Rowland

The book is very good so far! My Favorite part so far is when Billy, Old Dan, and Little Ann go on their first coon hunt. I also like when when they can't find the coon then Little Ann finds it and they tree the coon and Billy has to cut down the tree because it is too big to climb and that Billy is passionate towards his dogs and keeps the promise that if they tree the coon he will do the rest and it takes him days to cut it down. Billy's Grandpa makes a scarecrow with Billy so he can rest and eat. Then the next day Billy prays to God for help to cut the tree down. When he is just about to give up there is a wind that blows the tree down and it is only where the big tree he was cutting down was. Then he is really excited he got his first coon.

Simon Stauber

This book is really good. I think this chapter really shows Billy"s friendship and love for his pups.

Response by Tessa Allen

My favorite part in Where The Red Fern Grows, is when Billy cuts down The Big Tree to get the coon out. Describe an experience in which you had to '' chop down a tree'' and explain how you gained ''determination and will power. The determination to run and walk again was hard but I never gave up. The will power was I should start to listen to my mom when she said not climb that.
